Pillar boxes were first introduced into Britain at the instigation
of Anthony Trollope, the novelist, who was also a Post Office
surveyor. Although many letter boxes are ordinary, some types, such
as those that survive from the 1850s, are understandably rare. This
book describes and illustrates some of those from the Channel
Islands, where pillar boxes were first introduced in 1852, to
Scotland, which has had its own design of letter boxes since the
Queen's accession in 1952, and from the heart of London to the
depths of rural Wales and the Irish Republic.
Curriculum Revolutions is a tool to assist schools in creating,
building and maintaining a joined-up curriculum that is cohesive
and coherent. Martin Robinson's unique curriculum wheel leads you
through a continuous cycle of planning, designing, delivering,
reflecting upon and reviewing your curriculum. The process will
involve your managers, teachers and pupils, ensuring all understand
the importance of a well-functioning curriculum as the cornerstone
of the school and the quality of education it delivers. Good
curriculum design is a collaborative affair, so each revolution of
the wheel focuses on how to get staff working together
productively. Most importantly, from a design point of view,
Curriculum Revolutions explores the potential pitfalls in the
curriculum shape that a school adopts, either consciously or
unconsciously. Robinson argues that a sophisticated understanding
of the underlying structure, or 'thought architecture', can make
all the difference to the quality of the continuing, unfolding
project of good curriculum design.
There are innumerable products that promise to make individuals
more attractive, healthier, more popular, and more successful. But
worldly possessions are never enough for true happiness: there's
more to it than having a great job, designer clothes, a busy social
life, or a fat bank balance. This insightful guide unveils the
eight factors that psychologists have discovered as foundations of
real happiness, among them learning to forgive; investing time and
energy in friends and family; and practicing acts of kindness. In
an age of unprecedented wealth that is coupled with unprecedented
unhappiness and even depression, this book is a timely wake-up
call.
Drug development is risky business. It is against the backdrop of
huge financial, scientific, technical and medical risks that a
clinical trials manager is expected to function, effectively
identifying and managing all project risks, to deliver a successful
outcome. Focusing on the day-to-day needs of a clinical trials
manager, Clinical Trials Risk Management explains the key concepts
and principles of risk management, as well as showing how best to
how to apply them directly to 'real life' clinical trial
situations. After building a foundation of basic principles, the
authors lead you through specific methods for handling the risks
characteristically encountered in clinical trials. Their combined
years of experience in pharmaceutical research and development
shine through the narrative, making the prose both lively and
informative. They discuss concepts using worked examples and
include a summary of the main points at the end of each chapter. In
addition to diagrams and Risk and Precision Tree charts, the text
is sprinkled with humorous line drawings that reinforce the
concepts. After reading this book, you will know how to: -Prepare a
Risk Assessment -Design an Impact-Probability Matrix -Compile a
Risk Register -Run a Monte Carlo Simulation -Set up a Project
Decision Tree -Plan preventative and contingency actions The
stand-alone chapters provide easy access to topics, while anecdotal
and visual examples make them easy to remember. Martin Robinson and
Simon Cook deliver a clear interpretation of complex information,
thus saving you the time it would take to wade through a lengthier
text, adopting a straightforward approach to examining clinical
trials from a risk manager'sperspective. A practical, readable
guide, the book is filled with information that can be put to
immediate use to improve current or planned clinical trials.
Wilton House in Salisbury, England, has been the ancestral home of
the Earl of Pembroke for nearly 500 years and boasts one of the
most fascinating and varied histories of all Britain s historic
houses. Shaped over centuries by the most significant names in
architecture and interior design, Wilton is known as the finest
example of Palladian architecture in England, with interiors by
Inigo Jones and John Webb, furniture by William Kent and Thomas
Chippendale, and unparalleled collections of both classical
sculpture and Old Master paintings with masterpieces by Raphael,
Titian, Rembrandt, and Tintoretto among its rooms. The book
explores the development of the house and its collections, from the
Van Dyck paintings in Jones s remarkable Single and Double Cube
state rooms to the Arundel marbles housed in James Wyatt s
Gothic-revival cloisters. With a foreword by the Earl of Pembroke,
a revelatory text by the historian John Martin Robinson, and
imagery drawn both from Wilton s private archives and from eminent
architectural and interiors photographers, this book lifts the veil
on Wilton House and its remarkable history.

The concept of the ideal sexy body still dominates fashion,
advertising - and our thinking. Success, status and sex appeal are
all interwoven. Sheila argues that this is dangerous to our
well-being and contrary to the central Christian idea of our
acceptance in Christ. She shows how we can break bad habits of body
and mind, make the most of our corporeal selves and enjoy being the
way God made us. As we learn to love our bodies we learn to love
ourselves. Makeovers, she writes, are just not enough. 'I don't
think you can just fix up the outside of a person. If you don't
ever take a look on the inside and unpack all the self-loathing,
and replace it with a deep down self-acceptance and a sense of
being unconditionally loved, then no amount of surface
rearrangement will ever be enough.'
Developed originally for medieval battle flags, heraldic coats of
arms quickly became emblems of noble families' origins and
identities. This unique illustrated book explores the roots and
uses of heraldry and its terminology and lore, and shows how it
influenced the design and decor of 50 houses owned and preserved by
Britain's National Trust.
Drawing on their official access to the records of Britain's
College of Arms, the authors illuminate the development of each
house's heraldic symbols, which can indicate everything from
marriages and honors to social status and even a sense of humor.
The lush color photographs reveal the decorative uses of heraldry,
as seen on paneling, carpets, stained glass, china, even door
latches. Line drawings of each coat of arms and a gazetteer of what
to look for in other National Trust properties provide readers with
plenty more to investigate in historic houses throughout Great
Britain.
'A sharp but sensitive exploration of the pitfalls of masculinity'
– Jeffrey Boakye 'A wake up call to men' – JJ Bola 'Wasn’t it
time to pull apart what makes us men – to find some answers for
myself, and perhaps for others too?' In this searingly honest book
we join Martin Robinson – magazine journalist and founder of
men’s media site The Book of Man – on a journey into the chaos
of modern masculinity. Along the way, Martin visits mental health
groups and prisons, talks to sex activists, evolutionary
psychologists and musicians, works out with Special Forces
soldiers, watches cage fights, has a drag make-over and subjects
himself to an ‘intimacy jam’ – all in his quest to unpeel the
onion-like layers that make up the modern man. And yes, tears are
shed. Not cool, solitary tears either. Reflecting on his reporting
and discussions with experts, Martin also examines some of the most
pressing concerns facing men today, including violence, suicide and
the spectre of toxic masculinity. He explores how men are defining
themselves beyond traditional male stereotypes; whether they can
learn to expand the limits of what society expects; how to combat
the male mental health epidemic; and why men need a new blueprint
to live by in a society transformed by the Digital Age, new
attitudes in gender relations and a global pandemic. Crammed full
of interviews with the likes of Jason Fox from SAS: Who Dares Wins,
Jason Williamson of Sleaford Mods, musician Professor Green,
authors Poorna Bell and Thomas Page McBee, poet Derek Owusu and
Olympic gold-winning boxer Luke Campbell MBE, You Are Not the Man
You Are Supposed to Be portrays a nation of men struggling to make
sense of this strange new world, ultimately seeking out powerful
new ways for them to be.
From Ancient Greece to the present day, Trivium 21c explores
whether a contemporary trivium (Grammar, Dialectic, and Rhetoric)
can unite progressive and traditionalist institutions, teachers,
politicians and parents in the common pursuit of providing a great
education for our children in 21st Century. Education policy and
practice is a battleground. Traditionalists argue for the teaching
of a privileged type of hard knowledge and deride soft skills.
Progressives deride learning about great works of the past
preferring `21c skills' (21st Century Skills) such as creativity
and critical thinking. Whilst looking for a school for his
daughter, the author became frustrated by schools' inability to
value knowledge, as well as creativity, foster discipline alongside
free-thinking, and value citizenship alongside independent
learning. Drawing from his work as a creative teacher Robinson
finds inspiration in the Arts and the need to nurture learners with
the ability to deal with the uncertainties of our age. Named one of
Book Authority's best education books of all time.
* Speaks to the bewilderment and helplessness many churches feel in
the face of current events * Practical new interpretation of
changes in the West Throughout its history, the church has faced
crises of meaning and identity in all kinds of changing contexts.
The crises facing the churches of the western hemisphere today are
no different. At their best, churches have recognized that their
challenge is not their own fixing or even "reformation" but a deep
engagement with the ways the gospel transforms society. This book
explores how this can happen again in a radically changing western
world.

development art, as well as detailed creator insights and
